- Responsibility: We do what’s right for our people and the planet.
About the role:
The Vice President of Physical Security owns physical security strategy, standards, and control assurance for Digital Edge’s 1.8GW hyperscale portfolio, setting one security standard, one incident doctrine, and one auditable evidence trail across the region. This is a single-function role, reporting directly to the Chief Data Center Operations Officer as an independent peer to Facility Operations, Engineering Operations, Infrastructure Operations, Operational Excellence & Assurance, Portfolio & Transformation, and Client Operations.
The function is platform-led with country guard-force oversight, organized into three directorates including Physical Security Operations, Security Technology & Systems, and Security Governance & Risk. These form a closed Prevent / Detect & Respond / Prove & Improve control loop, with campus-based Security Managers executing guard-force and monitoring vendor oversight locally under contract. This role retains internal command, escalation authority, and evidence ownership for every security incident, and continues to shape the operating model as the hyperscale footprint matures.
Key responsibilities:
- Own Physical Security strategy, org design, and budget across the regional footprint, including headcount planning and hiring sequencing gated to campus energization and the RFS calendar.
- Set physical security policy and the minimum control standard, and approve access-control and surveillance standards applied consistently across every market.
- Own the Physical Security Operations directorate, directing guard-force and outsourced security monitoring vendor governance, incident response, and investigations, while retaining internal incident declaration, dispatch, and escalation authority.
- Own the Security Technology & Systems directorate, setting the roadmap and standards for access control, CCTV, and systems integration, and holding final technical escalation authority over design and configuration decisions.
- Own the Security Governance & Risk directorate, maintaining the risk register, coordinating certification and customer security audits, and ensuring evidence and action closure meet hyperscale assurance expectations.
- Through the Physical Security Operations directorate, hold the network of campus-based Security Managers accountable to central standards for local guard-force and monitoring vendor oversight.
- Accept security readiness at handover, ensuring physical access controls, surveillance, and security SOPs/EOPs are integrated and operational before customer energization.
- Lead executive and board-level business reviews, translating security posture, audit performance, and incident trends into strategic narratives for internal leadership and top-tier hyperscale customers.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve control effectiveness, assurance depth, and operational resilience across the full portfolio.
- Champion organization-wide compliance with policies and procedures for information security, health & safety, environmental management, incident management, and all legal/regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate:
- 12+ years of physical security, critical infrastructure protection, or security operations experience, including 6+ years in a senior leadership role managing managers or directors across multiple countries.
- Direct experience owning budget, headcount planning, and org design for a security function spanning multiple countries, including a platform-plus-country operating model.
- Proven experience governing outsourced guard-force and monitoring vendor contracts, including SLA management, escalation runbooks, and vendor performance oversight, while retaining internal incident command authority.
- Working technical knowledge of physical security systems (access control, CCTV/video management, intrusion detection, systems integration) sufficient to set standards and hold final technical escalation authority.
- Direct experience with security governance, risk management, and certification/audit cycles (e.g. ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS), including customer-facing security assurance and audit response.
- Demonstrated success leading physical security incident response and investigations in a high-consequence, low-tolerance environment, including evidence handling and root cause analysis.
- Proven track record operating in hyperscale or comparable mission-critical environments, including experience with customer security audits and access control for multi-megawatt campuses.
- Established executive presence, with a track record of engaging and influencing board-level, regulatory, and hyperscale customer stakeholders across multiple countries.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) required to support regional stakeholders and customers.
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and an operating model that will continue to evolve as the hyperscale footprint scales.
- Willingness to travel across APAC as needed.
