What we need:
The Vice President, Engineering will own the end-to-end technical lifecycle of Digital Edge’s data-center developments—from early masterplanning and strategic feasibility through complete design delivery and into construction innovation.
Reporting to the Head of Design & Construction, this leader will shape the engineering vision, drive value engineering, and ensure our projects meet ambitious goals for speed-to-market, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
This role partners closely with:
- Product Engineering – to align on “source of truth” design standards and reference architectures.
- Corporate Development – to translate strategic briefs and market opportunities into actionable technical programs.
- Construction & Operations – to champion design innovations that enable faster build schedules and reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Technical Leadership
- Set the engineering vision and roadmap across all new developments, ensuring designs are scalable, innovative, and customer-centric.
- Oversee masterplanning activities including site evaluation, technical due diligence, utility strategy, and early-stage feasibility up to schematic design.
Design Delivery & Governance
- Lead the integrated design process from concept through Issued-for-Construction, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery across a multi-country portfolio.
- Establish and enforce internal engineering standards, design reviews, and risk-management protocols to maintain consistency and technical excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work hand-in-hand with Product Engineering to maintain a single source of truth for standard designs and to embed lessons learned across markets.
- Translate Corporate Development’s strategic briefs into clear engineering requirements and masterplans.
- Support Construction teams in adopting innovative methodologies and technologies that accelerate schedules and reduce cost.
Value Engineering & Innovation
- Drive rigorous value-engineering processes to optimize capital efficiency while meeting hyperscale customer requirements.
- Champion next-generation solutions such as advanced liquid-cooling, grid-interactive power, or modular construction techniques.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing regional engineering organization covering masterplanning, design delivery, and emerging technologies.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Actively champion and implement policies and procedures for occupational health & safety in the workplace, information security management, environmental management systems; incident management; and comply with all legal regulatory requirements of the organization
The successful candidate:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in hyperscale or large-scale data-centre engineering, including significant exposure to both early-stage masterplanning and full design delivery.
- Strong familiarity with hyperscale customer requirements, including technical standards, compliance expectations, and commercial considerations.
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing external design consultants across multiple APAC geographies.
- Deep knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems (UPS/MV-LV distribution, chilled water/HVAC, liquid cooling, etc.), and familiarity with international standards (ASHRAE, IEC, NFPA, ISO).
- Demonstrated success in value engineering, construction innovation, and accelerating speed-to-market.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate technical strategies to executives, investors, and customers.
- Professional Engineering (PE/Chartered) credentials preferred.
