What we need:
Reporting to the Senior Facility Manager and Vice President, Engineering, The Data Center Senior Facility Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical infrastructure within a data center. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of power, cooling, and mechanical systems while maintaining industry best practices and compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering and data center operations. This role will be based in Seoul, South Korea.
Key responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the data center’s critical infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling systems, and backup systems.
- Monitor and analyze facility performance metrics to optimize efficiency and reduce operational risks.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with IT and facility teams to support infrastructure upgrades and capacity planning.
Engineering & Design:
- Lead the design and engineering efforts for new infrastructure deployments and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI/TIA-942, Korean Electrical Codes).
- Review and approve engineering plans, technical specifications, and vendor proposals.
- Evaluate new technologies and innovations to improve efficiency, sustainability, and resilience.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and environmental policies in South Korea.
- Develop and maintain incident response plans for system failures and emergency situations.
- Conduct root cause analysis for operational issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain proper documentation and reporting for audits, compliance checks, and performance reviews.
- Actively champion and implement policies and procedures for occupational health & safety in the workplace, information security management, environmental management systems; incident management; and comply with all legal regulatory requirements of the organization
The successful candidate:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data center operations, engineering, or facilities management.
- Strong understanding of data center power systems (UPS, generators, PDUs) and cooling technologies (CRAH, CRAC, liquid cooling).
- Experience with BMS (Building Management System) and DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
- Professional certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer – South Korea or equivalent), PMP (Project Management Professional), or CDCDP (Certified Data Center Design Professional).
- Experience with large-scale, high-density data centers and cloud service providers.
- Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency programs (e.g., LEED, Energy Star, carbon reduction strategies).
