What we need:

 

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Controls Engineer with deep expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) to join our Product Systems Engineering team. This is a global role and is pivotal in defining and maintaining global standards, templates, and best practices for control system design across our portfolio. This role will serve as the primary technical authority for all BMS and EPMS, and associated control systems within our mission-critical data center facilities. You will interface with design delivery teams, monitor adoption, and drive continuous improvement to ensure consistency, reliability, and operational excellence in mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in complex, hyperscale data center environments and strong leadership capabilities to mentor technical teams and manage vendor relationships. 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Standards Development & Governance

  • Design & Architecture: Lead technical design and validation of BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and DDC architectures for high-redundancy environments. Define system architectures, network topologies, and control logic for interoperability across HVAC, Electrical, ELV systems (CCTV, Access Control, Leak Detection), life safety systems. Standardize use of open protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, MQTT) for interoperability.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Develop, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance procedures (MOPs), and emergency operating procedures (EOPs) for global adoption.
  • Develop structured processes for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) within standard frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with industry benchmarks (ASHRAE, TIA-942, Uptime Institute) and local regulations.

 

Technical Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as the primary authority on BMS and EPMS technologies, protocols, and integration strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance to design delivery teams during concept, design, and validation phases.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex design challenges. Act as the go-to expert for BMS, SCADA, and control systems, providing guidance and leadership for all related activities, including design, installation, commissioning, and operations.

Continuous Improvement & Performance Measurement

  • Benchmark emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to maintain best-in-class standards.
  • Develop KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of control design standards across projects. Analyze feedback and operational data to identify gaps and implement iterative improvements.
  • System Optimization & Efficiency: Analyse operating data to identify trends, optimize system performance, and lead energy-saving initiatives to maintain efficient PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of the data center.

Stakeholder Engagement and Training

  • Collaborate with design delivery teams, operations, and vendors to ensure alignment with standards.
  • Training & Mentorship: Develop and deliver technical training for internal staff and contractors on BMS operations, controls logic, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors, including contract negotiations, scope of work finalization, and performance review of service level agreements (SLAs). 

Actively champion and implement policies and procedures for occupational health & safety in the workplace, information security management, environmental management systems; incident management; and comply with all legal regulatory requirements of the organization

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 15+ years of relevant experience in BMS and EPMS design and integration, with significant experience in a data center environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Instrumentation, Electronics, Mechanical, or Electrical preferred) or an equivalent technical field.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Deep, hands-on experience with major BMS platforms (e.g., Honeywell EBI, Siemens, Schneider Electric) and DDC controllers.
    • Expert knowledge of open protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP/MSTP, SNMP).
    • Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical power distribution, Fire detection and protection systems in a mission-critical setting.
    • Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Industry-recognized certifications such as Certified Data Centre Expert (CDCE) or Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP).
