What we need:
We are seeking a Head of Construction with a strong construction execution focused on delivering a ~300MW multi-phase data centre campus. This role will be reporting to Chief Development & Construction Officer, India.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience delivering complex, multi-site mission-critical projects, with a proven track record of driving strong outcomes across safety, quality, schedule, and contractor performance while partnering closely with Engineering/Design, PMO/Project Controls, Commercial/Procurement, and Operations/Commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic & Functional Leadership (Campus)
- Provide leadership for construction delivery across the entire campus, aligning teams to milestone‑based outcomes and budgeted cost.
- Establish clear accountability, performance expectations, and governance cadence for site leadership and delivery partners.
- Lead, mentor, and performance‑manage construction managers, package (MEP/Civil) managers, field engineers, and site support roles.
- Delivery Ownership
- Own end‑to‑end construction delivery from pre‑construction (constructability, sequencing, site logistics) through commissioning and turnover.
- Identify critical‑path risks early; lead mitigations and recovery plans (schedule, access, long‑lead, utilities, inspections).
- Ensure project controls discipline (baseline integrity, earned value/progress measurement, forecast‑to‑complete, productivity).
- Drive field readiness (workface planning, constraint removal, look‑ahead scheduling).
- Construction Governance & Standardisation
- Implement and enforce Group governance frameworks, reporting standards, and escalation pathways at campus level.
- Oversee change control and variation management; ensure compliant approval workflows and robust documentation.
- Maintain campus construction playbooks, ITPs, templates and lessons learned to drive repeatability across phases.
- Cross‑Functional & Stakeholder Interface
- Serve as the primary construction interface with Design/Engineering, PMO/Project Controls, Commercial/Procurement, and Operations.
- Support contracting strategies, tender governance, variation/claims prevention, vendor readiness, and performance management.
- Represent construction delivery in senior reviews, partner meetings, customer walk‑throughs, and executive escalations (as delegated).
- Commissioning & Operational Readiness
- Ensure turnover discipline: documentation completeness, redlines/as‑builts, O&M manuals, asset data, and spares.
- Coordinate smooth transition to Operations, ensuring operational acceptance criteria and customer readiness are met.
- Safety, Quality & Risk
- Enforce HSE and QA/QC non‑negotiables; ensure audit cadence and timely closure of corrective actions.
- Promote quality‑at‑source (progressive turnover, ITP adherence, inspections, punch/snag closure).
- Lead campus risk reviews across safety, quality, schedule, cost, and multi‑contractor interfaces.
- Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health & safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 18 years of experience delivering large, complex construction programmes.
- Proven leadership experience at Director or Campus level within data centre or mission-critical environments.
- Strong expertise in construction delivery, HSE, QA/QC, commissioning, schedule management, and change control.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ideally with hyperscale cloud, and/or datacentre developers preferred.
