What we need:
This role serves as the building-level EHS and Fire Safety lead for operational data center facilities at the BOM campus in India. Each operational building will have a dedicated EHS Advisor to ensure strong day-to-day EHS governance, safe management of operational activities, and compliance with applicable Indian fire and safety regulations. The role combines environmental, health & safety oversight with Fire Officer responsibilities as required by local regulations.
This role is based on-site at the Navi Mumbai campus in India.
Key responsibilities:
Fire Officer Responsibilities (as per applicable Indian regulations)
- Maintain firefighting equipment and fire protection systems in good working condition at all times.
- Prepare, maintain, and periodically review fire orders and fire operational plans and ensure they are implemented and promulgated.
- Conduct regular fire safety training for building occupants and contractors, including use of firefighting equipment and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure occupants are informed and familiar with the building’s fire emergency evacuation plan.
- Maintain liaison with the local fire brigade and relevant authorities.
- Ensure all fire precautionary measures are observed and maintained in accordance with statutory requirements.
Operational EHS Responsibilities
- Provide building-level EHS oversight across live operational data center environments.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with Indian statutory EHS regulations and corporate standards.
- Oversee safe management of energized systems, maintenance works, vendor activities, and minor upgrades within mission-critical environments.
- Conduct building-specific risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work are implemented for operational activities.
- Monitor contractor and FM partner compliance with EHS procedures and permit-to-work controls.
- Lead or support incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Track building-level EHS performance metrics and support reporting to campus management.
- Maintain emergency preparedness and participate in drills and coordination with local authorities.
- Serve as the building-level contact point for customer EHS and fire safety engagements and audits.
- Support ISO management systems implementation at building level (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health & safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate:
- Degree or diploma in Environmental, Health & Safety or related discipline.
- Recognized Fire Safety Diploma or Degree as required under applicable Indian regulations.
- 5–8 years of EHS experience, including exposure to operational or mission-critical facilities (data centers, industrial plants, energy, or similar environments).
- Strong working knowledge of Indian fire safety and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience managing operational safety in live, energized environments.
- Physically able to conduct regular building inspections, including stairs and equipment access.
- Fluent in English; Hindi or local language capability is an advantage.
