What we need:
The Director, Construction will support the Growth Market Construction VP in overseeing the successful planning, mobilization, execution, and handover of data centre projects across designated growth markets.
This role is a platform-level construction leadership role, supporting country project teams and market leadership to drive consistency, governance, execution excellence, and risk management across multiple projects and locations. The Director will work closely with in-country delivery teams and platform functions including Design Delivery, Commercial, Procurement, Project Controls, EHS, QA/QC, and Testing & Commissioning to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with Digital Edge standards.
The role is expected to act as an extension and deputy to the respective Construction VP across assigned markets, helping to strengthen local execution capability, monitor project performance, resolve key delivery issues, and support scaling of the growth market portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Construction Leadership
- Support the Growth Market Construction VP in overseeing construction delivery across multiple projects and countries within the growth markets portfolio.
- Act as a platform construction leader across assigned projects, ensuring alignment on execution strategy, governance, reporting, and delivery expectations.
- Provide leadership support to in-country construction teams, helping to drive consistency in project execution and decision-making.
- Working with the platform team, ensure that the standardised templates available such as cost report, procurement trackers, project updates, site analysis etc. are used and evolve the programme management approach by bringing continuous improvement.
- Step in as deputy to the Growth Market Construction VP where required for project, market, or stakeholder matters.
Project Oversight & Delivery Support
- Support local project and construction leads from pre-construction through commissioning and handover.
- Collaborate with the internal teams, consultant team, GCs, subcontractors, and other specialists to ensure the projects are delivered as their defined scope and as per contract for suppliers.
- Maintain accountability for project performance across schedule, cost, quality, safety, and readiness-for-service milestones.
- Identify key project risks, constraints, and delivery gaps early, and work with teams to implement mitigation and recovery actions.
- Support resolution of major site, contractor, authority, and interface issues that may affect delivery outcomes.
- Ensure all project deliverables are stored correctly onto the designated project folders as per in-house process.
- Integrity checks of work product produced by the Project Delivery team and other teams.
Pre-Construction, Planning & Mobilization
- Support project teams in construction planning, tender readiness, execution strategy, site mobilization planning, and overall delivery setup.
- Review construction methodologies, phasing plans, temporary works strategy, logistics, and site readiness to improve execution certainty.
- Ensure construction considerations are appropriately embedded into design, procurement, contracting, and project planning decisions.
- Schedule, Controls & Execution Governance.
- Work with project teams and project controls to review master schedules, critical path items, recovery plans, and key dependencies.
- Support schedule governance through regular performance reviews, risk reviews, and escalation of key issues to leadership.
- Promote disciplined execution controls across progress reporting, change management, look-ahead planning, and milestone tracking.
- Drive consistency in construction reporting and project dashboarding across growth market projects.
Contractor, Procurement & Commercial Coordination
- Support country teams and platform functions in evaluating construction packaging, contracting approach, and procurement readiness.
- Provide construction input into procurement strategy, bid review, contractor selection, and execution planning.
- Work closely with Commercial and Procurement teams to ensure contractor and vendor strategies support project objectives and market conditions.
- Monitor contractor performance, commercial exposure, and execution risks from a construction delivery perspective.
- Ensure audit compliance of commercial & contractual documentation in compliance with established governance.
- Construction Quality, Safety & Standards
- Reinforce Digital Edge’s expectations on HSE, QA/QC, site governance, and construction best practice across all assigned projects.
- Ensure lessons learned, common standards, and repeatable processes are shared and applied across markets.
- Support project teams in addressing key quality, safety, and workmanship issues, including high-risk construction activities and critical installations.
- Promote a culture of proactive issue resolution, accountability, and execution excellence.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover Support
- Coordinate closely with Testing & Commissioning teams to ensure construction completion, system readiness, and interface management are well coordinated.
- Ensure alignment across civil, MEP, IT, vendor, and commissioning interfaces.
- Support project teams in driving timely completion of construction works to enable integrated testing, commissioning, and customer handover.
- Help ensure projects are delivered in line with technical requirements, contractual obligations, and RFS commitments.
- Coordinate and manage project close out processes.
Team Development & Stakeholder Management
- Support development of local construction capability across the growth markets, including coaching, mentoring, and strengthening team structure over time.
- Help define roles, responsibilities, and resource needs across country delivery teams as project volume grows.
- Build strong working relationships with country leadership, platform stakeholders, contractors, consultants, JV partners, local authorities, and customers as needed.
- Provide clear and regular updates to the Growth Market Construction VP on delivery status, emerging risks, support required, and market-specific issues.
Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health & safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Typically 12+ years of experience delivering large-scale construction projects, preferably data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial, or major infrastructure developments.
- Strong track record in construction delivery leadership across multiple projects, teams, or geographies.
- Experience supporting or overseeing in-country construction teams in a regional or platform environment is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of project controls, construction planning, schedule recovery, contractor management, and execution governance.
- Familiarity with procurement and commercial interfaces relevant to major construction delivery.
- Strong knowledge of HSE, QA/QC, construction risk management, and testing / commissioning interfaces.
- Experience working in complex stakeholder environments, including platform teams, local delivery teams, consultants, contractors, and external partners.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving capability.
- PMP or equivalent project management credential is advantageous.
