What we need:

 

Reporting to the Senior Facility Manager – Japan, the candidate is responsible for engineering integrity and operational performance of mission-critical Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems across Digital Edge Japan facilities.

 

This role ensures that our Japan assets meet stringent uptime, safety, compliance, capacity, and efficiency targets, while supporting growth projects and customer requirements. The position is based in Tokyo, Japan

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  1. Operations & Reliability
  • Manage daily operation and monitoring of critical infrastructure, including power systems, cooling plants, fire protection and automation platforms
  • Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs to protect uptime and asset condition
  • Track facility performance indicators and drive continuous efficiency improvement
  • Support upgrades, commissioning, and capacity planning in collaboration with site and IT teams

 

  1. Engineering, Design & Projects
  • Lead engineering assessments, technical reviews and implementation for:

lifecycle replacement
MEP retrofits and reliability upgrades
customer fit-out, power allocation and rack deployment

  • Ensure compliance with Uptime, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, TIA-942 and local Japanese standards
  • Evaluate technology innovations that improve efficiency, sustainability and resilience
  1. Risk, Compliance & Incident Management
  • Own incident response readiness, root-cause investigation and corrective action programs
  • Maintain engineering documentation, reports and audit records
  • Drive compliance to safety, ISMS, environmental, regulatory and operational procedures in Japan

 

Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health & safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements.

 

The successful candidate:

 

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5+ years in data center operations, engineering, or mission-critical facility management
  • Strong technical proficiency in:
    • UPS, generators, PDUs and LV/MV distribution
    • CRAC/CRAH, chilled water and advanced cooling architectures
    • BMS and DCIM platforms
  • Proven decision-making and fault resolution skills in high-pressure environments

 

Preferred:

  • PE (Japan or equivalent), PMP, CDCDP, CDCP/CDCS
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or high-density colocation sites
  • Familiarity with PUE optimization, ESG programs or carbon reduction initiatives
  • Fluency in Japanese and English to interface with local authorities, vendors and international operational teams
