What we need:
Reporting to the Country Health and Safety Lead, Indonesia, the Construction Health and Safety Manager provides Health and Safety leadership and oversight across Digital Edge’s construction portfolio in Indonesia, supporting the Country Health and Safety Lead in driving consistent execution, contractor accountability and Health and Safety performance across multiple concurrent developments.
The role works closely with Construction leadership, Campus Health and Safety Managers, project teams, contractors and regional Health and Safety teams to ensure Digital Edge standards are effectively implemented, high-risk activities are well planned and controlled, and construction Health and Safety issues are identified, escalated and resolved.
This role will be based in Cikarang, Indonesia, with regular presence across Digital Edge’s Indonesia construction portfolio.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate Health and Safety across the Indonesia construction portfolio, working closely with the Country Health and Safety Lead to drive consistent execution, contractor accountability and performance.
- Drive consistent implementation of Digital Edge Health and Safety standards, requirements and programs across all active construction projects, working through Campus Health and Safety Managers and project teams.
- Provide leadership and oversight of high-risk construction activities, including work at height, lifting operations, electrical works, energy isolation, temporary works, excavation, confined spaces, hot work and other significant construction risks.
- Work closely with Construction and Project Management teams to ensure Health and Safety is integrated into construction planning, sequencing, look-ahead planning, mobilisation and execution.
- Strengthen contractor Health and Safety accountability through mobilisation, performance reviews, field engagement, escalation and engagement with contractor leadership where performance or significant risks require intervention.
- Coordinate risk-based construction Health and Safety assurance across the portfolio, including inspections, audits and high-risk activity reviews, ensuring significant findings are escalated and corrective actions are driven to closure.
- Monitor construction Health and Safety performance, leading indicators, incidents, assurance findings and emerging risks across projects, providing the Country Health and Safety Lead with clear visibility of significant issues, trends and priorities.
- Provide coaching, technical guidance and support to Campus Health and Safety Managers and construction Health and Safety teams, strengthening consistency, capability and quality of execution across projects.
- Coordinate with APAC Health and Safety Standards & Assurance teams and technical specialists to address complex or emerging construction risks and implement applicable standards, controls and improvement programs in Indonesia.
- Provide Health and Safety leadership across construction and commissioning interfaces, including energisation, testing, simultaneous operations and transition towards operational environments.
- Review significant construction incidents and high-potential events, ensure immediate learnings are communicated across projects, and drive implementation of corrective actions and broader lessons learned across the Indonesia portfolio.
- Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health and safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate:
- 10+ years of progressive Health and Safety experience, including significant experience leading Health and Safety across large-scale construction projects or multi-project portfolios.
- Proven experience in construction Health and Safety and risk management within large-scale, complex or high-risk environments, including data centers, pharmaceutical, chemical, process industries, or other major construction environments.
- Strong practical understanding of high-risk construction activities and associated controls, including work at height, lifting operations, electrical works, energy isolation, temporary works, excavation, confined spaces and hot work.
- Demonstrated experience working with General Contractors and subcontractors to strengthen Health and Safety performance, accountability and execution.
- Strong experience in construction Health and Safety planning, field assurance, inspections, audits, incident management and performance monitoring.
- Proven ability to lead, coach and develop Health and Safety professionals across multiple projects and drive consistent execution of Health and Safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to influence Construction, Project Management and contractor leadership, including escalating significant Health and Safety risks and driving timely resolution.
- Strong understanding of construction and commissioning interfaces, including energisation, testing, simultaneous operations and transition towards operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of Indonesian Health and Safety regulatory requirements, together with knowledge of international Health and Safety standards and good industry practice.
- Ability to analyse Health and Safety performance, incidents and assurance findings, identify systemic trends and translate them into practical improvements across the construction portfolio.
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English, with the ability to communicate effectively across site teams, contractors and senior leadership.
