Position Summary
Japan team's the most senior finance leader for the Japan business, with full responsibility for financial management, governance, compliance, and performance management across all local entities.
The role acts as the primary finance partner to the Japan COO and Group Finance, ensuring financial integrity, disciplined capital allocation, and high-quality decision support during a period of ongoing platform standardization, subsidiary integration, and growth.
This position represents a carve-out of the Finance Director responsibilities previously held within the COO role, with end-to-end ownership of the local finance function.
Financial Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing country finance team, establishing a robust finance, reporting, and internal control environment.
- Set clear objectives, role clarity, and performance standards across accounting, FP&A, AP/AR, and compliance functions.
- Act as the senior finance point of contact for Japan across the Group.
Financial Reporting & Control
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to Group Finance, including:
- Management reporting (BD +6)
- Statutory accounts under local GAAP
- Maintain strong balance sheet governance, including PP&E, leases, accruals, and intercompany balances.
- Own relationships with external auditors and manage audit processes end-to-end.
Planning, Budgeting & Performance Management
- Lead all local budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities in coordination with Group FP&A and Japan leadership.
- Provide clear, actionable insights on actual vs Budget, key cost drivers, and business risks.
- Support pricing, customer profitability, and margin analysis for commercial decision-making.
Capital Expenditure & Investment Governance
- Provide financial oversight and governance for capital investments, including: Growth Capex, Maintenance Capex and customer provisioning Capex work closely with Costing support team
Treasury, Cashflow & Financing Support
- Partner with Group Finance on cashflow forecasting, liquidity management, and capital allocation.
- Support local debt financing activities in coordination with Group Finance and CIO teams.
- Oversee local banking relationships, payment controls, and cash management processes.
Tax, Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all statutory, tax, and regulatory obligations.
- Manage relationships with tax authorities and external tax advisors.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for tax incentives, subsidies, and regulatory rebates.
- Oversee transfer pricing documentation and intercompany compliance where applicable.
Systems, Process & Efficiency
- Drive implementation as a process , optimization, and adoption of group-wide finance systems potentially upgraded to new instance, as well as reporting tool called OneStream.
- Lead process improvement initiatives, including automation and standardization across finance operations.
- Ensure alignment with Group accounting policies and internal control standards.
Risk Management & Governance
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to support local risk management frameworks.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies related to financial governance, procurement, and delegated authorities.

Actively champion and implement the organization’s policies on health & safety, environment, energy, quality, information security, and business continuity, ensuring adherence to incident reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline; CPA, USCPA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with demonstrated responsibility at senior manager / associate director level or equivalent
- Prior experience acting as country finance lead or senior finance business partner in a multinational, matrixed organization
- Strong technical expertise in accounting, controllership and financial governance, including professional judgement on capitalization, provisions, leases, and revenue/cost recognition
- Hands-on experience leading budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning in a complex business environment
- Demonstrated experience providing financial governance and challenge over capex programs and investment decisions
- Experience partnering with Group / Regional Finance, including policy interpretation and escalation management
- Track record of managing statutory reporting, audits and tax compliance, including direct interaction with auditors and tax authorities
- Experience in finance transformation, system implementation or platform standardization initiatives
- Proven people leadership experience, including team management, talent development and succession planning
- Ability to operate with delegated authority, exercising sound judgement while appropriately escalating material issues
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage credibly with senior leadership and external stakeholders
- Business-level English and Japanese proficiency required
